Located
on the grounds of the Maritime Museum along the shores
of Lake Erie, we traveled to Vermillion for the wedding
of Katie Freeman and Keith Rathbone. This elegant
tented reception came complete with a mouthwatering plated
meal of New York strip steak or pan-fried Lake Erie perch
with a beautiful sunset right on the Lake Erie shoreline! We
planned, coordinated and ordered all the event rentals
for this beautiful event. |

The National Board of Directors and staff of the John
S. & James L. Knight Foundation convened in Akron
for their annual board meeting. They were in Akron
to honor Dr. Gerry Austen, retiring President of the
board. Dr. Austen and his wife lived in Akron for
a number of years before moving to Boston.
The weekend kicked off on Saturday night with an Ohio-themed
buffet dinner in a beautiful clear span tent at a private
cattle farm and home in Hartville. Lake Erie walleye
and Amish grilled chicken breasts were prepared on site
for the group of 75 guests, all close friends and colleagues
of Dr. Austen.
On Sunday, we were honored to cater a beautiful hors
d’oeuvres reception in the lobby of the Akron Art
Museum. This elegant affair for 250 guests featured
a cold soup shooter ice display and baby lamb chops sautéed
to order and served outdoors on the terrace.
The weekend concluded on Monday as the new home of
the GAR Foundation and Knight Foundation offices in Akron
were unofficially christened. The Andrew Jackson
House, a second empire mansion, was meticulously renovated
to its original grandeur by the Chesler Group from Cleveland. We
provided breakfast and lunch for the board meetings held
there on that day.

A
lakefront setting at a private home in the Portage Lakes
was the perfect backdrop for an hors d’oeuvres reception
for the United Way of Summit County. As guest entered
the area, five vintage automobiles including a viper, were
parked on the lawn and driveway. The evening’s
menu featured grilled chicken and beef skewers along with
a gourmet bruschetta station and tiger shrimp shooters. |

A gathering of 200 guests came to the Akron Art Museum
for the wedding reception of Erin Webster and Kevin Spring. The
centerpieces were tall branches with hanging lighted
candles and fresh flowers. The main lights were
dimmed to accent the chocolate brown, gold, green and
red colors of the décor.
At the request of the bride and groom, we created an
ice cream sundae bar for their guests.

Tiffin & Misha’s
wedding reception – October 10, 2009

Robert J.’s ability to work in unique venues
(one of our company strengths!) was very evident
on October 10th. The wedding reception of Tiffin & Misha
was held in the airplane hangar at the MAPS Museum
located next to the Akron-Canton Airport. The
80 guests enjoyed their meals right in the hangar
surrounded by planes from all decades of the 20th
century.
The entrees were a dual plate of sirloin of beef
and an over-sized crab cake with Dijon cream sauce. Since
we were in a hangar that housed planes carrying fuel,
open flames to keep hors d’oeuvres warm were
a no-no. We improvised and served mini Philly
cheese steaks and escargot in puff pastry on hot
granite stones – both were big hits with the
guests.
